Shakespeare’s plays can teach us how to make the most of our lives, both in challenging and in calm times. In most of his plays he has a wise character who shows the other characters how to live an artful life, both by example and through their words. As well, we can also learn a great deal from other characters who are having difficulties in meeting life’s challenges.
In this first of a series of workshops on Shakespeare’s plays, we will be looking at The Merchant of Venice and what it teaches us, especially in regard to how we can meaningfully and lovingly interact with others. No experience with watching or studying The Merchant of Venice is necessary but if you have a chance to watch the play in advance it will enhance your workshop experience.
